If there’s one thing everybody can agree on at the start of a new year is the necessary supplies of tissues.
Cold, flu and other winter-prone illnesses are flourishing during the first months of the year. And it’s no wonder that after the season of Christmas festivities and excess, your body is less prepared to fight out infections, germs, and viruses. In other words, most Americans start the year clutching tissues in their hands.
The main problem about catching a cold is that it can throw you off track for a little while. Indeed, not only is it a dark hole that sucks out all your energy, but it also continues to affect your look long after it’s gone. How can you best style your cold when you need to make a good impression on your colleagues and partners?
#1. Don’t work through it
It’s not uncommon for the typical office worker — or even student – to want to push through the first symptoms of a cold. After all, you might be thinking that you’ve had the whole of the Christmas holidays to chill and relax. But in reality, it’s never a good idea to expose the public and your co-workers to your virus. First of all, you might be contagious, so there’s no point dragging everyone down with you. You need to stay at home until you feel better. The first rule of styling your cold is not to force yourself to work while you’re healing.
#2. Distract from the main elements
Generally, within a few days, you should begin to feel better – a doctor can help you to figure out if you’re still contagious if you’re worried about going back to work too early. However, just because your cold is on the way out, it doesn’t mean that it can’t be seen. You probably still have a red nose and some puffiness around the eyes at that point, even if you’re done coughing and blowing your nose. While you might be tempted to hide everything under a layer of makeup, you need to be smart about it. Your skin is fragile at the end of a cold, consequently use makeup sparsely and wisely. For instance, a colorful lip makeup accent can distract from the red nose while keeping your lips hydrated. Puffy eyes disappear behind long eyelashes.
#3. The keyword is elegant comfort
Ah, winter fashion. It makes it easier for you to go back to work without emphasizing your health issues. You can use comfortable and warm clothes such as a wool shirt and elegant scarves to keep yourself toasty. Drop the office wear for a few days and focus on cozy outfits that elevate your body temperature. Why so? Because your immune system is still weak so you want to protect it! #4. Don’t take any risk
While it might sound dull, you can build your own health station with a cute hand sanitizer bottle, a pack of kawaii tissues, and colorful vitamins. Keep it on your desk and use it at all times! Make sure to HYDRATE! Drink tons of water to help replenish what you may have lost and hydrate from the inside out.
